SmithBates Expands with the Purchase of Graphic Press

SmithBates Printing and Design announced today that they have recently purchased the assets of Graphic Press in Klamath Falls. The aquisition will expand the company to 25 full-time employees and give them 3 locations. They also announced that they will be constructing a new 20,000 square foot building which is expected to be completed in 2008.

The company is now in the process of finalizing plans to combine their 3 locations to one large site with approximately 20,000 square feet. Until the completed expansion, the 1929 historic downtown location will serve as the Customer Service Center as well as the Center for Graphics and Digital Print and will be the point of purchase for all services. The former Graphic Press location will be the site of their new Fulfillment and Mailing Services Center and will house one of the large printing presses. Once consolidated SmithBates will unveil a new Heidelberg 6-color large printing press to further increase thier capacity and they will add up to 10 more employees for a total of 35 full-time employees.

In recent years SmithBates has taken on a targeted campaign to increse their presence in the regional printing market. "With the combined strength of both SmithBates and Graphic Press, we plan to put Klamath Falls on the printing and fulfillment map in Oregon and beyond" notes Ann Cavanaugh who ownes the buisness with her husband Dan. In addition to several large corporate clients in the basin like South Valley Bank, OIT, Jeld-Wen and Merle West Medical Center, the company has added large customers in Spokane, San Francisco, Sacramento and Salt Lake.

The new larger SmithBates has a mission to create a strong full service printing company that meets the needs of 21st century businesses large and small. Thier goal is to partner with businesses to help reduce waste in printing, handle inventory management and create a fast efficient means to handle materials for thier clients growing distribution needs. "We get excited about making life easier for our clients" said Dan Cavanaugh, "the purchase of Graphic Press allows us to add staff and capabilities to further our mission and better serve the business community."

The company is also planning on expanding their online ordering and printing services. In the coming weeks they will launch an online retail website for custom printing orders (www.smithbates.com). The new web-based retail store will include over 150 design templates to choose from and will allow clients to order business cards, letterhead, envelopes, color brochures and direct mail postcards. "We feel that this is a great new service for our valued small business clients as well as our larger ones," noted Ann "serving the needs of businesses of all sizes from right here in Klamath Falls is what we are all about." They also offer custom online catalogs for large client inventory and fulfillment management.
