With more than 41 years at the helm, Dan has transformed SmithBates from a small printing company serving the regional timber industry to a large multifaceted operation, responsive to the modern marketing needs of both large and small companies. Dan still works directly with some of his long time client-friends in the business. Although he is spending less time in the office, he still guides the estimating operations and handles key client relationships.
Born and raised in Klamath Falls, Dan graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He studied business at Oregon State and went to work in the family business after graduation. Shortly after working in the business, he became a partner and later purchased the business from his parents in 1988. Dan’s stewardship throughout the years has followed the same basic principals of his predecessors – take care of your customers, continually invest in modern equipment and technology, and hire and train good people.
He has served on the Pacific Printing Industries and American Red Cross boards and was active in Rotary. Through his business, Dan has actively supported and given back to the community in numerous fundraisers and community events. Dan enjoys golf, cooking, Beaver football, traveling and celebrating life with his extended family and friends.
